What a virtual address is (and isn't)

A virtual address is a real street address at a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA): staff receive your mail, scan the envelope, and upload contents you ask them to open. To make it legal, USPS Form 1583 — notarized — authorizes the operator to accept mail on your behalf; every legitimate provider requires it, and any that doesn’t is a red flag. Two separate problems get mixed up here. First: a few states scrutinize CMRA addresses as the principal office on formation papers — filings have bounced in Illinois and a handful of others when the address traced to a mail store, so check your state's guidance or use the provider's LLC-specific address product.
